The purpose of the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Civic Amenity Site Forum (WEEECAF) is to assist the Government in the practical implementation of the WEEE directive.
WEEECAF provides a mechanism for all involved parties to exchange information and promote best practice by working together throughout the WEEE recycling chain.
WEEECAF provides a platform for Local Authority DCF operators to represent their views to Government to ensure the operations of Household Waste Recycling Sites (HWRS) remain compliant, that adequate funding is provided, and their primary role is not compromised.
The exchange of ideas that takes place makes a significant contribution to the professional development of individual managers in the participating organisations.
WEEECAF has generated a membership of over 100 from across all sectors involved in the implementation of the WEEE Directive.
Although the membership is high it is anticipated that members will not be able to attend all meetings. WEEECAF ensures that every member receives all details of each meeting, including minutes and copies of presentations. WEEECAF has had an attendance rate of around 25%.
WEEECAF also provides a platform for members to network across the sector, exchanging ideas with a much wider range of organisations than would be possible in the normal course of their work.
The CIWM has approved the WEEECAF meetings and attendance can be used towards 4 hours CIWM Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
