Working with Electrolink
Companies with household (B2C) obligations have to pay their proportionate share of B2C WEEE that is taken to Designated Collection Facilities (DCFs). These are mainly attached to Local Authority Household Waste Recycling Centres. Compliance Schemes, such as Electrolink, must collect all this material from the DCFs and transport it to Treatment Facilities to be recycled on behalf of their member customers.
The obligation in tonnage for each company can only be calculated at the end of the compliance year. There is no limit to any company's obligation as everything that is collected separately at a DCF must be recycled. Therefore it is vital that these sites should be operated efficiently to avoid waste that is not WEEE from contaminating the WEEE and adding to the obligation and therefore costs of scheme members. It's also important to ensure that material that has a value and therefore reduces costs, metal for example, is not stripped from the WEEE. However, most Local Authorities say that they do not have sufficient internal funds to carry out the additional work required.

From the onset of the Regulations Electrolink developed a business model by which it works in close partnership wth Local Authorities, their DCF operators, who are usually waste management companies, treatment centres and reprocessors to ensure high standards of material management. This will ultimately minimise costs for our customers. Our contractual agreements with these parties also enable us to guarantee a fixed price per tonne to our members.
