Why we have introduced this new service

Wastepack Compliance Scheme members can be confident that once they have supplied the Scheme with details of their packaging flows they can leave Wastepack to calculate their recycling obligations and see them safely through the compliance process. That first internal process of calculating the packaging flow of your business varies significantly in complication according to the nature of your activities. Wastepack provides support to our members through data clinics and a help line. However a number of businesses have asked us whether we can provide a commercial solution that will take over the whole process of calculating packaging flows. Accurate data is the key requirement that underpins effective compliance with the packaging regulations. The regulations came into force in 1997. During this time most participants have become familiar with the process of complying and the costs associated with this. However, one area that many businesses struggle with is gathering the necessary data in order to make an accurate and timely declaration. Understanding packaging flows and determining packaging weights is the first step in this process. Many firms do not have the time or resources to implement systems that will record this information accurately. Regulatory Agencies are increasingly looking for higher standards of accuracy in the data supplied for each business. Our efficient and cost effective solution will take this burden away from you.

Our collaboration with Greenstreets

We can now offer this capability to obligated companies as a result of our service partnership with Greenstreets Environmental Resources Ltd, an experienced provider of data collection services. Greenstreets has been collating and providing data services to clients for more than ten years and has a wealth of experience in the UK, Ireland and other European countries. A specialised data management system called GRIPS ™ lies at the heart of the Data Service. This sophisticated software links packaging specifications to accounts or stock control systems. Its comprehensive database contains more than 100,000 different packaging weights and it can even be used to calculate the weight of bespoke packaging.

How the relationship works

The Wastepack team will continue to manage all relationships with obligated companies, while Greenstreets’ seamless back-office operation will take responsibility for collecting data, determining the relevant business rules and calculating the packaging flows. This service will be offered as a complete end-to-end package to our members, but you do not need to be a member of the Wastepack scheme to benefit from this service. Wastepack will accurately calculate packaging recycling obligations on behalf of any obligated company and provide this information to their chosen compliance scheme. Members of Wastepack can also gain additional benefits from this service, such as reduced compliance costs, easy identification of high compliance cost packaging specifications and availability of baseline data for packaging reduction exercises.
